ORIENTATION PROCESS
The following suggestions are made to assist parents in helping children adjust during the orientation to St. Paul Preschool and assuring a smooth, successful transition for both parents and child. Please inform the teachers if you have any additional requests or special needs as we assist you in integrating your child into his or her group in the Center.

A pre-visitation for new students will be arranged in August as so the child and parents can personally meet the teachers. An Orientation Day will also be scheduled before the first day of school. Parents are encouraged to participate in the pre-arranged orientation time, as this will allow a parent to be present. During this time, parents are encouraged to visit with staff members, asking any further questions or concerns that they may have. Should your child have difficulty separating from the parents on the first few days of school, the following proposals have been very helpful:

Don't prolong the good-byes. Cheerfully tell your child that you love him or her, you know that he or she will have a fun day and what time you will return to pick them up. Give him or her a big kiss and hug, and then firmly and quickly walk away.

At times suggesting that your child wave goodbye to you from a window assists them in separating from you and understand that you must leave. A staff member can accompany them during this time of transition.

Quite often children will cry in the hope that it will change your mind and coerce you to stay home with them. In most cases, as soon as the parent has left, the child will go off to play and forget their tears. You may ask a staff member to call you after an hour or so or feel free to call back personally. The best alternative is to not torture yourself with the mental image of an unhappy child.

Take an active interest in your child's daily activities. Use the posted calendars to assist you in discussing what your child has learned each day. Give importance to his or her activities at the Center.

The curriculum that is used at St. Paul Preschool comes from Creative Curriculum with a twist of teacher created material. Many of the activities are viewed through child discovery in learning centers and table activities. The children match, count, do one-to-one correspondence, and discovery.

We also break into group time with calendar time, writing time, and most important, Jesus Time. We use a Bible series from Concordia Publishing House called Voyages for all groups. During Jesus time we learn about the life of Jesus and how He is our Savior and Friend.

ENROLLMENT
Each year, enrollment begins the first part of November. You may call St. Paul for information or stop by the school office to pick up the enrollment forms. At the time of enrolling your child, we ask that you pay the first month’s tuition to ensure your child’s placement in the correct class. If for some reason you need to pull your child's name from the enrollment, payment will be reimbursed to you through June 1st.

The Center requests that parents arrive no earlier than five (5) minutes prior to the scheduled arrival time. Please promptly pick-up your child at the end of the preschool day.
